These mosaic sculptures are covered with ceramic tiles that were hand-made in GiGi's studio. The base forms are made of ferrocement (a combination of cement and rebar) and are hand sculpted by GiGi.
"Corazón de Oro" is a two-sided sculpture that has a bat on one side, and and armadillo with monarch wings on the opposite side. This sculpture was created for the City of Austin to be placed in the Ricky Guerrero Park as part of their Art in Public Places program. Hundreds of the tiles were sculpted by area residents and school children as part of GiGi’s community engagement practice. Completed in 2021, the sculpture resides near the children's playscape in the park. The armadillo carries a football to honor the memory of Ricky Guerrero.
“Knock on Wood” is a Majestic Pileated Woodpecker on a faux bois pine tree. This sculpture is the first in a series of sculptures to celebrate the City of Bastrop’s recognition as a bird city. Commissioned by Bastrop’s Cultural Arts Commission and installed in 2024, the sculpture is located in front of the Bastrop Convention Center.
"Lupe" is a Guadalupe Bass (the Texas state fish), and she was commissioned by the advisory board for Kerrville Main Street. Hundreds of Lupe's tiles were sculpted by Kerrville residents during several public tile making sessions. Dedicated in 2017, Lupe now swims along the banks of the Guadalupe River in Louise Hays Park near downtown Kerrville.
"Skittles" is a whimsical chameleon with dragonfly wings that was featured on the cover of the Jan-Mar 2016 issue of Texas Hill Country Magazine. After winning the City of Boerne’s People’s Choice Award (through participation in the city’s Art al Fresco program), Skittles now has a permanent home near the Patrick Heath Public Library. Previously, Skittles resided at the Cedar Park Sculpture Garden and also at the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Lampasas, TX.
"Leap of Faith" is a fantastical tree frog with butterfly wings that belongs to the Bee Cave Arts Foundation. Since 2013, Leap of Faith has been on permanent display in the Bee Cave Sculpture Park.
"Esther" is a mosaic earthworm that playfully pops in and out of the ground around the playground at Westlake United Methodist Preschool. Completed in May of 2015, this was GiGi's first project made with the assistance of the community. Children who were members of the church and pre-school all created tiles out of clay at a large tile making party. Then, GiGi glazed and fired the tiles at her studio for inclusion in the finished work. Approximately 75% of the tiles used for the sculpture were created by the children.
